New York, Buffalo, Queens & Brooklyn  IS WAITING FOR A BumperDoc!

The latest U.S. Census data has confirmed what we have long suspected: the number of cars owned by New York City residents has exploded in the past decade. This increase is even greater than that of the suburbs. From 2012 to 2021, there was an increase of 223,500 passenger vehicles owned by residents of the five boroughs, bringing the total number of cars in the city to 2,077,000, an increase of 12.1 percent. In comparison, the seven non-city “MTA counties” saw an increase of 228,700 vehicles, with a slightly greater numerical increase than that of the city but only a 7.5 percent increase in percentage terms.

It is noteworthy that this increase in vehicle ownership was not a recent trend and had already started before the pandemic. The average annual increase in registered vehicles from 2019 to 2021 was around 30,000, which was not significantly different from the average annual increase of 23,500 from 2012 to 2019. In contrast, the suburbs saw a significant boom in automobile ownership in 2020 and 2021, with an average annual increase of 71,500 owned vehicles compared to just 12,200 per year in the prior seven-year period. This increase in the suburbs was due to out-migration of city residents who brought cars with them or purchased more.

The Census data also revealed that the increase in automobile ownership was distributed across all five boroughs of New York City, with Brooklyn seeing the largest increase of 66,000 registered vehicles, followed by Queens with 59,000 and the Bronx with 52,000. The increases in Manhattan and Staten Island were 23,000 each. The Bronx saw the largest percentage increase, with a 22 percent rise in the number of registered vehicles, followed by Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Dutchess County, with a 13 percent increase in the number of vehicles registered from 2012 to 2021.

It is clear that the increase in the number of cars owned by New York City residents is a cause for concern. The data shows that the city’s population grew by just 1.4 percent over the same period, while the suburbs saw a population growth of 3.3 percent. This trend is not sustainable, and we need to take action to address the issue of increasing car ownership in the city.

This study suggests that a BumperDoc location or mobile services would be well-received in New York, Buffalo, Queens, and Brooklyn. If you are ready to start a bumper repair business or express collision repair shop in New York, Buffalo, and Queens, Please call BumperDoc today!
